The main reason to come to Zoutelande is of course the beach. Sunbathing, swimming, wind surfing, watersport or just a stroll along the beach. The holiday villa is located in the dunes, so the beach is only a 5 minutes walk away!

But there is a lot more to do in Zeeland beyond the beach. Enjoy nature. Go for a hike. or enjoy nature by bicycle on the excellent Dutch (flat!) bicycle roads along the countryside. In the neighbourhood, there is subtropic swimming pool, a beauty farm, you can play squash, bowling, fitness or visit one of the many musea and exhibitions.

And don't forget to visit nearby cosy little towns like Domburg, Veere, Middelburg or Vlissingen (Flushing). They are all well reachable by bicycle, car or public transportation and are excellent for shopping, restaurants and bars.

Below is some information about Zeeland's main attraction.

The Delta Projects

In Februar 1953 the south-west of The Netherlands was heavily flooded. Since, the Dutch have worked hard to minimize he chance for such a flood disaster for the entire Netherlands. A long-term and comprehensive plan, the Delta plan, provided for the construction of storm tide dams, flood gates and heightened dikes in order to stop the threatening water. The large Delta Projects draw the most attantion all over the world.

Spectacular and striking the imagination is the Oosterschelde storm flooddam (see picture). It is the connection between Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland. with a total length of 9 km. The dam has 62 movable gates (each 42 m long), electrically driven with a current from 10 diesel generators. A lock of 100x16.5 m2 with a bottom of NAP – 6.5 meters.

Town of Veere

There are two houses on the quayside at Veere today, still known as the Scottish Houses and built in the 16th century in late-Gothic style. They are named Het Lammeken (the Lambkin), and De Struys (the Ostrich), and bear their emblems.

Het Lammeken was probably built in 1539 by a Scot named Joos Olivers. They were built as twins, but De Struys lost its upper gables and the window spacing has been changed. De Struys was the Conservator's residence, and Het Lammeken, the Conciergery or office.

The quay itself was known as the Scottish Quay at which Scottish vessels had priority; outside the harbout there is a shoal which is still marked on marine charts as De Schottsman. With the ending of the Scottish Staple, Veere's importance and prosperity declined.
